Piarais Feiritéar was Lord of Corca Dhúine up until 1653. He was born in-and-around 1600 and was of Sean-Ghall (Hiberno-Norman) stock, subordinate to the Fitzgerald, Lords of Desmond.
His people took up arms against the New Model Army of Oliver Cromwell, on the side of the Royalist forces assembled in support of the deposed English King, Charles I. He was hung by Cromwell's troops in 1653 at Fair Hill in Killarney despite being under a flag of truce.
He was considered to be one of the most accomplished poets, composing in both English and Irish, as well as a master of the Cláirseach)(the Gaelic Brass Strung harp).
